Dry sponges deposit more product than a damp sponge. For more coverage, apply your foundation with a dry sponge. For a more natural look, apply your foundation with a damp sponge.
Water dilutes and softens. When you wet a makeup sponge you create a more porous surface therefore the product will sink into the sponge leaving less resting on top for depositing. A wet sponge will deposit less makeup. Dry sponges are stiff. This allows product to sit on top therefore more product will deposit on to the skin.
Depending on the amount of coverage you want, determines whether you choose to work with a wet, damp sponge or a dry one.
